The Used at Oppikoppi in 2011 (Photo Of The Week)

In August 2011 I made my Oppikoppi Unknown Brother. The Used were one of the International Headliners and actually the first international band that I had the privilege to photograph.

In case you did not know, The Used is an American rock band from Orem, Utah, formed in 2000. The group consists of vocalist Bert McCracken, bassist Jeph Howard, drummer Dan Whitesides, and guitarist Joey Bradford. Former members include Quinn Allman, Branden Steineckert, and Justin Shekoski.

This edition of Oppikoppi festival also featured Sum 41 (a well-known rock band from Canada) and an amazing line-up of South African artists including Van Coke Kartel, David Kramer, Bittereinder, Die Tuindwergies, Isochronous and Fuzigish.

I snapped this photo of The Used during their set at the festival and it has been selected as the Photo Of The Week on SA Music Zone.

I have to admit that shooting this band was not a pleasant experience. They started 40 minutes later than scheduled – yes – it was one of the longest sound-check sessions that I’ve ever experienced.

We also could only take photos of the band during their last 3 songs, so we had to wait quite a bit. I remember that a lot of peeps in the crowd were disapointed because The Used did not play “The Bird and the Worm” during their set.
