Matthew Mole was one of the artists on the line-up for Oppikoppi 2014 and the line-up for that edition of the festival was pretty damn epic (if you ask me).
More info about about Oppikoppi 2014
Oppikoppi 2014’s line-up featured Wolfmother (from Australia), Rival Sons (from the USA) and Editors (from the UK). It was the 20 year anniversary of the festival, so there sets by SA Music Legends like Wonderboom, Springbok Nude Girls, Urban Creep and Squeal.
More info about Matthew Mole
Matthew Mole is a singer-songwriter from Cape Town, South Africa. Mole received guitar lessons from his father initially. Subsequently, he expanded his musical repertoire by mastering the ukulele, banjo, piano, organ, and drums. Towards the end of high school, he embarked on composing his own music.
Matthew Mole describes his music-writing process as commencing with a lyrical concept, rhythm, or melody, then layering different instruments through recording, alternating between them until a complete song emerges.
Matthew Mole’s musical journey began with the independent release of his EP You Did Well, Kid in 2011, followed by the winning of Converse’s Get Out of the Garage competition in 2012, which led to his signing with Just Music and the release of his second EP, Same Parts, Same Heart.
His debut studio album, The Home We Built, released in 2013, marked a significant milestone as he became the first South African artist to debut at #1 on iTunes SA chart. Subsequent albums like “Run” and “Ghost” continued his success, earning nominations and achieving Gold Status.
Known for his folk-electronica blend, Mole’s dynamic live performances have taken him across various festivals and countries. Beyond music, he’s engaged in environmental activism, collaborating with organizations like WILDTRUST to advocate for ocean protection alongside his wife, Jess.
