Gazelle was one of the artists that I watched and photographed at Oppikoppi Unknown Brother in August 2011. This was my first Oppikoppi festival where I was photographing artists in the photo pit. One of those photos have been selected as this week’s photo of the week.
More info about Gazelle
In 2006, Gazelle embarked on a musical journey, sparked by acclaimed photographer Xander Ferreira’s venture into crafting electronic bedroom music. He skillfully navigates across electro, disco, funk, and pop genres, accompanied by a vibrant fashion sense and a proud vision of the potential of African contemporary music, art, and fashion.
I still remember his set at Oppikoppi – I was quite a rookie photographer back then. I was snapping photos of Gazelle and his ensemble in the pit and I was in the middle of Sean Brand and Liam Lynch (two of South Africa’s best live music photographers). I remember feeling extremely nervous at the start of the set, but I was settling down after a few minutes.
