Today sees the release of a brand new single by Zebraman, entitled “Swimming In The Sun”. The single comes after the release of their previous single, ‘Sunlight’ in May this year.
More info about “Swimming In The Sun”
“Swimming In The Sun” was written in August 2021, and contains a classic Zebraman bassline together with a straightforward tropical drum groove and a slight hint of South African sounding percussion.
The single started with the idea that the band wanted to portray an abstract love relationship between things in space, such as galaxies, planets, stars, etc. and how they could go for a quick swim in the sun. Afterwards, they opted to shift back towards what humans sometimes do when they are in relationships: They tell white lies to make people feel better for a moment.
Zebraman frontman Johan Viljoen comments on “Swimming In The Sun”
“Once you listen to the song this way, the lyrics could have a different meaning to them but it is still relatable to a human love relationship, where we sometimes whisper white lies to someone to make them feel better for a moment. Telling someone that we could go “Swimming In The Sun” is not something we can actually do, but it makes them feel excited at least for a little while.
“Swimming In The Sun” is a summer song; the single offers fans a fun, tropical sound with abstract but relatable lyrics combined with an easy-going beat.
“Anyone who just wants to chill out with a Piña Colada in the hand this summer, would be able to relate with the feel of this song.” says Johan
