Earlier in this week Afrikaans rockers Van Coke Kartel released the video for their version of the Koos du Plessis song Skadu’s teen die muur.
The video premiered on their re-designed website and on the South African music television channel MK a few days ago. It’s definately one of my favorite songs on the Skop, Skiet & Donner Album (which was released by the Belville rockers earlier in 2010).
The music video for Skadu’s teen die muur was directed by Louis Minnaar (who also directed the video for Voor Ons Stof Word). I think it’s absolutely brilliant.
In a way some South African bands don’t get enough attention, and I think Van Coke Kartel is one of them. I last saw them performing at Oppikoppi 2009 Smoorverlief on the acoustic stage last year and I’m glad to see that they will be part of the line-up for Oppikoppi: Sexy, Crooked Teeth (which is scheduled for 6 – 8 August 2010). The band is currently on tour around the country. They are appearing at The Rumours Pub tonight (the 25th of June).
Van Coke Kartel gigs are also lined up for Tings and Times in Pretoria (on the 28th of June), Cafe Barcelona in Elardus Park (on the 29th of June), Back2Basics in Johannesburg (on the 30th of June), Cool Runnings in Lakedene Centre, Benoni (on the 1st of July), The Waiting Room in Cape Town (on the 5th of July), Mecury in Cape Town (on the 6th of July) and the 3 Arts Theatre (on the 7th of July). If you’re a rock music fan, this band will appeal to you. So get your behind to one of these gigs and support local music.
