Van Coke Kartel have released a new music video for their track “Dis ‘n Land”. In late 2011 Bellville-based Afrikaans rockers Van Coke Kartel released their fourth studio album, Wie’s Bang.
The album was promoted on a tour around the country in December 2011. There’s almost no doubt in my mind that this was the best Afrikaans rock albums released in South Africa last year.
Wie’s Bang is Van Coke Kartel’s follow up to their 2010 album Skop, Skiet & Donner (which proved that the band wasn’t a new Fokofpolisiekar band).
Van Coke Kartel has quite a wide musical range and have become renowned around South Africa for their energetic live performances. If you ask me Wie’s Bang is proof that their musical range is much wider than you might think. They are one of the most hard working bands in South Africa.
They won the 2011 MK Award for Best Live Act, an honour that they definitely deserve – in my opinion. In 2011 I saw them perform a record amount of 10 times.
The last time I watched them perform was on the 2nd of December last at Arcade Empire in Pretoria. The Springbok Nude Girls were one of the support acts at the show and I must say that it was an excellent showcase of how South African music has changed over the last decade.
I think 2012 is going to be a busy year for Van Coke Kartel, they have already been named in the line-up for the 2012 Campus Invasion Tour (which takes place in 6 cities around South Africa). Today Van Coke Kartel released a music video for the second single off their Wie’s Bang album, Dis ‘n Land.
I must admit that this is one of my favourite tracks on the album. And I also think the video is unique and quite hilarious.
The video features Francois Van Coke, Jedd Kossew, Jason Oosthuizen and Wynand Myburgh dressed in what I call “old-ladies’ clothes”. The video ends with them ditching their costumes and destroying their instruments (something not many South African bands have done in their music videos). The video was directed by Quinton Lavery.
