Radio Kalahari Orkes have released a new song, “Blaas Jou Vuvuzela” (featuring Jack Parow). In case you did not know, Jack Parow has become a name on the lips of a huge portion of South African music fans since late 2009.
Parow is going on a tour to the United Kingdom with Die Heuwels Fantasties soon and also going on a solo tour of the Netherlands in July. He’s also been named as part of the line-up for Pukkelpop (a music festival in Belgium) which is set for later this year.
Jack Parow has also been confirmed for Oppikoppi: Sexy Crooked Teeth (which is staged from the 6 to 8 August in 2010 near Northam).
You might be asking “Who are Radio Kalahari Orkes?”
Well, they’re an Afrikaans band fronted by Ian Roberts. If you remember Sloet Steenkamp from the Afrikaans television show Arende you might know who Ian Roberts is. He also gained fame for starring the TV adverts for Castrol on South African television. Radio Kalahari Orkes has been performing all around South Africa since 2005 (as far as I know) and have gained quite a following in the process. I saw them perform at Oppikoppi 2005: Wired.
Radio Kalahari Orkes and Jack Parow have collaborated in the spirit of the 2010 FIFA World Cup to bring us ‘Blaas Jou Vuvuzela’ (translated as “Blow Your Vuvuzela”). The whole country has been blowing their vuvuzela’s to show their support for Bafana Bafana. Let’s hope this song inspires Bafana Bafana today to beat France in their last group match of the tournament to regain some pride (and possibly make it into the 2nd round of the tournament)
This is the video for ‘Blaas Jou Vuvuzela’:
