Power is not just a musical compilation, but a deeply personal narrative chronicling Mvuyana’s decade-long journey of self-discovery.

As an independent, self-funded artist, Bongi Mvuyana has invested her entire being into this album, exploring themes of love, loss, and personal growth. Her storytelling is firmly rooted in her South African heritage while incorporating global influences, resulting in a sound that’s both familiar and groundbreaking.

Mvuyana describes the album as “an era of discovering and expressing my Power.” Her transition from a high-profile corporate role as Regional Strategy Director: Africa for a multinational company to fully embracing her musical career underscores the album’s themes.

“The past decade has seen immense growth for me, both as an artist and as a woman. Power embodies this growth, and I’m thrilled to share it with my audience,” she explains.

The creation of Power has been transformative for Bongi Mvuyana on multiple levels. In a symbolic move, she recently cut her signature long hair, visually representing her journey towards self-liberation and new beginnings.

This transformation is mirrored in her music, where she experiments with her vocals in unprecedented ways, fusing elements of jazz, folk, gospel, and electronic music to craft a unique and Powerful sound.

“Cutting my hair was initially jarring, but ultimately liberating,” Mvuyana reveals. “It symbolizes the new chapter I’m entering—one of maturity, wisdom, and self-acceptance. This album celebrates the beauty of my current self.”

To support the album release, Mvuyana will embark on the Power tour, promising an extraordinary live experience featuring her dynamic band.

The performances will bring the album’s vibrant energy to life, showcasing Mvuyana’s captivating vocals, compelling storytelling, and the electrifying fusion of sounds that define her music.

The Power tour kicks off on 17 October, with shows planned in Johannesburg, Durban, and Cape Town. Tickets will be available on Quicket, and fans are encouraged to purchase early due to anticipated high demand.

Mvuyana expresses deep gratitude to her family for their constant support throughout her journey. “I am because they are,” she states, acknowledging the crucial foundation they’ve provided.
