South African fans have sparked an unexpected global moment for US band The Strike, as their latest single “The Getaway” rockets to #2 on the South African Spotify Viral Chart—driven entirely by organic streaming and word of mouth.
Despite zero official promotion or radio airplay in the region, The Strike saw a sudden spike in streams on Spotify and Apple Music, with South Africa becoming the band’s second-biggest market globally for “The Getaway.” The song’s retro-pop energy and cinematic feel have clearly resonated with local audiences.
The Strike says they “We Were Blown Away”
Lead singer Chris Crabb shared the band’s excitement: “We were blown away when we saw what was happening in South Africa. It’s such a beautiful thing to see fans connecting with the music purely on their own—and we’re incredibly grateful for the support coming from SA.”
Who Are The Strike?
Known for their arena-ready choruses and vibrant live shows, The Strike blends soaring vocals, pulsing synths, and throwback percussion to create a bold pop/rock fusion.
The group has shared stages with international stars like Carly Rae Jepsen and The Fray, building a loyal fanbase through dynamic performances across North America.
Their latest album A Dream Through Open Eyes, released via Nettwerk in late 2024, has been a turning point—adding over 25,000 new followers and racking up more than 100 million streams across platforms.
The band was also spotlighted by John Mayer, who added their track “Just Like Paradise” to his SiriusXM show Life With John Mayer.
South Africa in Focus
With their South African fanbase growing daily, The Strike is now looking at ways to connect more directly with this passionate audience—hinting at tour dates, potential local collaborations, and regional radio appearances.
“We’d love to come and play in South Africa,” says Crabb. “The energy we’re seeing online from fans there is incredible. It feels like the start of something really special.”
