Nomadic Orchestra release flavourful album: “Out & About”

Out & About is the new album from Nomadic Orchestra a five-piece brass dance band, based in Cape Town, South Africa. The primary goal of the Nomads, as they’re affectionately referred to, is to get people moving. The band plays an infectious kind of high-energy dance music guaranteed to get feet tapping and limbs flailing.

Their music can’t be defined by one specific genre, as they combine elements of Afro-Balkan, Jazz, Punk, Rock, Hip Hop and everything in-between. One thing however is for certain, and that is that Nomadic Orchestra are the ultimate party starters and as such have played pretty much every prominent music festival in SA, as well as one very successful European tour!

Jono Prest (on Trumpet & Backing Vocals for Nomadic Orchestra) comments

“The Out & About album is a Covid 19 lockdown baby that was born from a wild time of huge loss, risks and exciting new opportunities. With events coming to a halt and new relationships forming with STFD and Just Music, we were afforded lots of time and space to meet, write and develop our material in the most natural way we have ever experienced.”

“The flow from writing, to rehearsing, to recording and mixing has been incredibly smooth and satisfying. I’m so excited about all the new flavours mixed into Out & About. The album keeps dance and groove at the centre of its inspiration.”

“It borrows from many different styles, such as hip hop, afrobeat, ghoema, samba and many more, all woven together with that familiar eastern European “Nomadic” sound that you’ve come to know and love from the band. We’ve poured a lot of love into this album and we hope you enjoy the buffet of spicey, flavourful and oh so tasty treats.”

Gabriel Du Toit (on Saxophone and Lead Vocals for Nomadic Orchestra) comments

“Making things light is what we do best but making light of the last couple of years has been real tough, to say the least. We had to focus on the future with some optimism and hope, waiting for a world full of living, dancing, and laughing to return.”

“For us, memories of the hustle and bustle of Cape Town nightlife was something we held firmly in our hearts and minds, and this gave us the energy to create something new and keep the light shining bright in SA’s music scene. As a band and team of musical brothers, we felt motivated and driven to keep our work alive and to, once again, bring our tongue-in-cheek optimism back to the fans and dance floors of South Africa.”

Out & About was recorded at Atomic Studios CT, formerly STFD Studio in Woodstock, under the watchful eye of Jon Shaban. The album was mixed by Jethro Harris and mastered by Vicente Espi.
