Emerging artist Meelu sets the tone for a breakout year with the release of her debut single and music video, “Slowburner,” now available across all major streaming platforms.
Born in South Africa and now based in the UK, Meelu is carving out a sonic space where deep emotion and irresistible rhythm collide.
“Slowburner” blends acoustic storytelling with the pulse of UK drum and bass, unveiling Meelu’s signature sound: vulnerability you can dance to.
Driven by poetic lyrics, folk-inspired guitar riffs, and a relentless backbeat, the track transforms the ache of mistimed love into a high-energy expression of self-reclamation.
“I’m an overthinker, it hurts like hell,” Meelu confesses on the track—before closing with a line that flips pain into power: “I’m a slowburner, baby.” The message is clear: they didn’t take the time to know her—and that’s their loss.
The “Slowburner” music video reflects the song’s raw, emotional intensity. Shot without a crew, makeup, or special effects, the video was filmed in one day in the mountains during a camping trip. Meelu and her brother handled the entire production, hiking between shots, swimming in rivers, and navigating curious baboons who occasionally stole the spotlight.
The final product is wild, visceral, and intimate – mirroring the whirlwind of emotions that come with trying to outrun or slow down a spiraling feeling. Time-lapse sequences add visual rhythm to the song’s emotional charge.

Influenced by the UK underground drum and bass scene, Meelu brings hypnotic rhythm together with folk-like storytelling. Her music is led by lyrics and designed to move you, body and soul.
“Slowburner” is just the first in a planned series of releases throughout the year, promising a journey through sound that’s both cathartic and kinetic.
