MaWhoo drops her highly anticipated new project Amazwi Okubonga, now available on all platforms. The release follows the record-breaking run of her smash hit “Bengicela” and marks another defining moment in her fast-rising career.
Translating to “words of gratitude,” the nine-track EP blends joy, faith, and raw emotion, moving effortlessly between the uplifting bounce of 3-step and the soulful richness of Amapiano.
With themes of love, spirituality, and resilience at its core, Amazwi Okubonga reinforces MaWhoo’s position as one of South Africa’s most compelling voices.
The EP is stacked with collaborations, pairing MaWhoo with stars like Zee Nxumalo, Nkosazana Daughter, Thatohatsi, Tracy, and Mthandeni SK, alongside talents such as Mthunzi, Jazzworx, Sykes, Thukuthela, Yumbs, GL_Ceejay, and Deep Sen. She also shines a spotlight on the next generation, featuring DJ Veek, DJ 2K, Criimora b.k.z, and ChildDaDj, proving her role as both innovator and mentor within the culture.
Her runaway hit “Bengicela” continues to break records—holding the #1 spot on the BMAT South Africa Chart for 10 consecutive weeks (the longest run of 2025), leading the Radio Monitor Chart for six weeks, surpassing 50 million streams, and inspiring over 1.2 million fan creations with more than 912 million views across platforms. It stands as one of the year’s most significant cultural moments.
For MaWhoo, Amazwi Okubonga is both a heartfelt thank-you to her fans and an expression of faith, acknowledging God’s hand in her journey. With her distinctive voice, spiritual depth, and artistic vision, she continues to drive the global rise of South Africa’s 3-step and Amapiano wave.
