Pichi Keane comments on the track

“I wrote ‘Came Here To Dance’ a couple of years ago, and performed it live to a small audience for the first time with just a ukulele as accompaniment early in 2020. I think it’s fair to say that it had humble beginnings, but I’m in awe of the talent and enthusiasm André brought to this project.”

“He really captured the essence of what I was hearing in my mind, and he encouraged me to take chances with the vocals which has elevated the song as a whole. I’m really excited for listeners to hear it, to feel empowered to take up space and honour their boundaries.”

Producer on the single ‘Came Here To Dance’, André Scheepers is a South African composer and songwriter who has had a hand in many chart-topping songs over the last two decades including hits from Tasha Baxter, Jesse Clegg, Auriol Hays, Johnny Apple, Bobby Van Jaarsveld and Chianosky to name a few.

No stranger to the spotlight, Pichi Keane has already left their mark on the stage. With a Standard Bank Silver Ovation Award from the National Arts Festival under their belt and sold-out performances along the Garden Route during their solo drag cabaret tour, “Ripe ‘n Ready”, Pichi is a force to be reckoned with.

Prepare to be swept away by Pichi Keane’s infectious energy and bold attitude with “Came Here To Dance”. Stay ahead of the curve by pre-saving the single today and be among the first to experience this dance floor sensation – It dropped on the 15th of March 2024.

‘Ripe ‘n Ready’ is described by Pichi as a “musical glamour clown extravaganza” and is a heady mix of live sung pop songs with a cabaret twist, a side of raunchy stand-up comedy and a touch of tease that has left countless audiences begging for more.

No under 18s are allowed as the production includes strong language, sexual themes and partial nudity. The show has been a must-see whether you’re queer, curious or just fell in love with drag through bingeing RuPaul’s Drag Race and can’t wait to be within arm’s reach of a real-life queen.

Pichi had exclusive live premiere performance of their debut single “Came Here To Dance” as the grand finale at their sold out show of ‘Ripe ‘n Ready’ which took place at Gorgeous George, St Georges Mall, Cape Town CBD on Friday, the 1st of March 2024.
