The pulse of global dance music beats stronger with the official announcement that Lady of the House, the internationally acclaimed platform dedicated to uplifting women and non-binary artists in electronic music, is expanding into South Africa.
The news comes ahead of their much-anticipated panel at the Africa Rising Music Conference (ARMC) in Johannesburg this May—marking a significant new chapter in the movement’s international journey.
From the UK to South Africa: A Global Movement Takes Root
Launched in the UK in 2021 as a groundbreaking book spotlighting 150 women in the dance music industry, Lady of the House has since grown into a global powerhouse.
It now encompasses a record label, educational programming, and sold-out exhibitions, with collaborations spanning major international brands. Following last year’s expansion into Brazil led by artist CAMZ, the movement now officially lands on South African soil.
Money Badoo Leads the Way as South Africa’s Lady of the House Ambassador
At the forefront of this expansion is multi-talented artist and cultural icon Money Badoo, appointed as South Africa’s first Lady of the House Ambassador. Known for her fearless artistry and influence in both music and fashion, her role reflects a shared vision between her personal mission and the platform’s values.
“Being part of Lady of the House means standing on the shoulders of giants while carving space for the next wave of greatness,” says Money Badoo. “South Africa is rich with raw talent and deep stories — this is about making sure the world hears them, and hears them loud.”
A Strategic Launch at the Africa Rising Music Conference
Founder Laila McKenzie describes the move as a natural progression for Lady of the House. “We’re beyond excited to expand into South Africa with Money Badoo at the helm.
The energy, talent, and cultural innovation coming out of this region is undeniable. It’s time the global industry gives women and gender marginalised people here the platform they deserve.”
The South African launch aligns with the platform’s broader mission to inspire, educate, and empower the next generation of underrepresented voices in music. Lady of the House will make its official debut at ARMC, a major platform for the advancement of African music and cultural dialogue.
Panel Spotlight: “Elevating Women & Non-Binary Artists in South Africa’s Dance Music Scene”
To celebrate the milestone, Lady of the House will host an exclusive panel at ARMC titled “Elevating Women & Non-Binary Artists in South Africa’s Dance Music Scene”. The session will unpack themes around inclusion, entrepreneurship, and sustainable career-building in electronic music for women and non-binary creatives.
Featured panelists include Money Badoo, Gigi Lamayne, Namakau Star, SHAMISO, and Laila McKenzie—all leaders and innovators in their fields.
