Singer-songwriter Gareth Haze has released his powerful new single, “Never Have I Ever”, an upbeat folk-rock anthem that transforms personal grief into a vibrant celebration of memory and resilience.
Fusing the emotional core of Americana with the raw drive of punk, the track encourages listeners to embrace bittersweet memories while moving forward with hope and energy.
A Personal Journey Through Grief and Renewal
Written in 2023 following the death of his father to cancer, “Never Have I Ever” is a deeply personal reflection on loss and the healing power of music.
The song navigates themes of remembrance and strength, transforming sorrow into catharsis. Gareth played every instrument on the track—including challenging piano and bass parts—making the recording a fully immersive solo effort grounded in emotional authenticity.
Remote Collaboration with Brother and Producer Mark Haze
The single was produced in collaboration with Gareth’s brother, acclaimed rocker Mark Haze, via cloud-based technology bridging the distance between the UK and South Africa. The remote production process drew on the brothers’ shared musical roots and allowed them to co-create a song that balances innovation with heartfelt storytelling.
“It’s always great to work with Mark,” says Gareth. “We share a lot of the same ideas and influences, and despite the challenges of coordinating across continents, modern technology has made it possible for us to create something truly special.”
Genre-Blending Sound with an Emotional Core
Drawing from the emo and punk sounds of the 2000s and 2010s, alongside modern folk and Americana influences, “Never Have I Ever” delivers a compelling mix of dynamic instrumentation and reflective lyrics.
The song balances upbeat energy with themes of love, loss, and renewal—creating a sonic space where joy and sorrow coexist.
This marks Gareth’s second single and his first fully solo release, following the success of his debut “Home” (featuring Mark Haze), which received critical acclaim and built momentum for his upcoming projects.
Artist Reflections: “Even Though They’re Gone, The Memories Live On”
Gareth shares the inspiration behind the single: “‘Never Have I Ever’ is primarily about my feelings of losing my dad to cancer, but like all my songs, I tried to write it in a way that anyone who has lost someone they care about can relate to… It’s a hopeful song that highlights the idea that, even though someone may no longer be physically present, the memories of them live on.”
“As a multi-instrumentalist, I embraced the challenge of playing every part on the track. Recording drums came naturally but tackling the piano and bass was both frustrating and fun. I’m incredibly pleased with how it all turned out.”

“Never Have I Ever” is now streaming on all major platforms and marks a pivotal moment in Gareth’s creative evolution. Fans can expect more releases in the coming months, including new singles and potential EPs that continue his exploration of heartfelt, genre-blending songwriting.
