Multi-award-winning DJ, producer, and entrepreneur DJ Kotin has uplifted South Africa with his latest single, “Intozami.”
The track, a preview of his upcoming album dedicated to his late grandmother, is quickly gaining momentum, dominating streaming platforms and currently sitting at the top of the Radio Monitor Top 10 charts.
“Intozami,” which loosely translates to “my own things” in isiZulu, is an infectious, upbeat track that fuses aftotech melodies with three-step rhythms.
It serves as a heartfelt plea to God for blessings and the realization of personal dreams. Written and performed by rising stars Njilour and Kayzee Musiq, the song reflects a deep yearning for independence and success, resonating with listeners through its powerful lyrics and authentic Durban sound.
“When you look back on your past achievements and think about the future, you might feel like there’s still so much to accomplish, and it can make you feel behind in life. But we created this song to spread positivity, reminding people that prayers will be answered and things will eventually fall into place,” says DJ Kotin.
While the production and composition of “Intozami” are outstanding, its true impact lies in its heartfelt isiZulu lyrics.
The opening verse, which has gained traction on TikTok, pleads, “Thixo somandla, ngicela uzwe imithandazo yami, nami ngicela ukuba nezinto zami, lomhlaba ngiwusebenzele,” meaning, “Almighty God, please hear my prayers. I, too, want to have my own things—I’ve worked hard in this world.” This powerful message resonates deeply with listeners.
Reflecting on the inspiration behind the lyrics, DJ Kotin shares, “Everyone reaches a point where they long for independence and the ability to achieve their goals through hard work. This song is a sincere prayer for that, affirming to God that I’ve put in the effort and am ready to see the fruits of my labor.”
The second verse continues the emotional appeal: “Remember me, O God, when you respond to prayers and bless your children.”
This line speaks to the universal desire for divine intervention and blessings in times of need.
“Intozami” is part of DJ Kotin’s upcoming album, which will feature collaborations with artists like Sykes, Skyewanda, Zanda Zakuza, Mondli Ngcobo, Fezeka Dlamini, Babes Wodumo, Tipcee, Herrah, Drega, and Skillz.
