Renowned singer-songwriter Jesse Clegg returned with his eagerly awaited single, “Hurricane” in September 2024, marking the start of an exciting new phase in his musical journey. This energetic indie-pop anthem highlights Clegg’s exceptional talent for weaving personal narratives into his music.
“‘Hurricane’ is about facing life’s storms head-on and discovering strength in our ability to rise above them,” Clegg explains. “It’s a song of resilience, standing tall in the face of challenges, and recognizing that, no matter the obstacles, we have the inner power to overcome them.”
But that’s not all! “Hurricane” was co-written and produced by American music sensation Nick Petricca, best known for Walk The Moon‘s hit “Shut Up and Dance,” which peaked at #4 on the Billboard Hot 100.
It’s been over a year since Jesse Clegg’s last release, “Called to Hear Your Voice,” topped major charts across South Africa.
“I’ve been traveling and collaborating with some of the world’s top writers and producers. I’m really excited about these new singles and will be releasing them over the coming months, starting with ‘Hurricane’ on August 30.” says Clegg.
Later this year, Jesse Clegg will return to the U.S. for a special one-night-only headline performance at the legendary Carnegie Hall in New York City.
The music video, directed by André Badenhorst, amplifies the song’s theme of unity and strength through an unforgettable live performance. Set in an airfield just outside Johannesburg, the video features a massive 28-meter-long Hurricane sign, with Clegg performing alongside the Jeppe Girls Choir from Jeppe Girls High School.
“The choir brought so much energy to the shoot,” says Jesse. “We had an 80-piece choir belting out the gospel-inspired harmonies, and it was just this amazing feeling of joy and community. We spent the whole day jamming and rocking out together—it was one of the most fun shoots I’ve ever been on.”
