I made may way to Up The Creek Music Festival in 2012. It was the first time that I made way to this epic festival (which has been running for more than two decades).
More info about Up The Creek Music Festival
Founded in 1990, Up the Creek stands as the second most enduring outdoor music festival in South Africa. Each year, it takes place along the enchanting banks of the Breede River, situated approximately 23km outside Swellendam in the Western Cape province.
My 2 cents on Up The Creek 2012
My memory is a little hazy (thanks to the multiple Titanics and Icebergs I enjoyed at the festival), but I rememer that I experienced my first Jeremy Loops show at this festival,
It was boiling hot every day and I remember getting properly sunburnt and being called a “Henno Turtle” (when I took off my sunglasses) by Chris Van Der Walt (who the bassist of The Black Cat Bones).
The line-up for Up The Creek 2012 was epic. I experienced sets by Shadowclub, aKING, Karen Zoid, Taxi Violence, Kongos, Dan Patlansky, SA/DC, The Black Cat Bones, Southern Gypsey Queen, December Streets, Wrestlerish and a whole lot more.
In case you didn’t know, the Titanic and the Iceberg are two of the festival’s signature drinks that help to cool down festival goers.
I snapped this photo of the crowd at the festival and it has been selected as the photo of week (on SA Music Zone). I am not sure who the band who was playing on the stage, but I remember the vibe being awesome!
Great news it that Up The Creek festival is happening in 2024! If you’re a festival junkie (like me), you should definitely check it out. The atmosphere and vibe is amazing! Get more info about the festival HERE.
