Vaughn Prangley releases video for “Call Our Own”

Vaughn Prangley shares a new track and music video for “Call our Own”, the second single to be lifted from the rising South African musician’s forthcoming debut album, Destination Unknown.

It’s a single which, like so much of Vaughn Prangley’s writing, has a transportive power and the ability to put the listener right there, in the time and place of the song. Emotionally charged writing and true vocal talent demonstrate Vaughn’s range and passion.

Vaughn Prangley comments on “Call Our Own”

“Call Our Own is a song on escaping the repetitious routines of everyday life. It is important to know when to take a step back and live in your mind for a little while. It’s sometimes okay to pack up your bags and just go somewhere, anywhere, with no reason at all. We all live in a rather strange world but this strange place can be your canvas if you make it. Add your splash of colour to life. Dreams are brought to life when you step out of the ordinary and let your mind wander to the extraordinary.”

Vaughn Prangley - Call Our Own

The song is a much-needed bolt of positivity in an otherwise uncertain time. The song was written in lockdown as a moving dedication to human strength and connection when faced with life’s tribulations.

In tandem with the single release, Vaughn also debuts the music video for his new song, which symbolizes a new chapter for Vaughn as he introduces his band for the very first time. He started his musical journey as a solo artist back in 2020 and decided to incorporate a live band as a part of the new chapter in his career.

The video was filmed and directed by Graeme Wyllie and shot on a dirt road in The Cradle of Humankind, during sunset. The live performance scenes of the band performing ‘Call our Own’, was shot on an equestrian farm, Maple Ridge.

Vaughn Prangley comments on making the video for “Call Our Own”

“Playing ‘Call our Own’ with my band in a field filled with horses was one of the coolest experiences! I forgot about any struggles I had and just played music with some of my favorite people.”

“The music video is all about escaping, going on that road trip, that sense of freedom. We all have that dream location we want to visit one day or that specific place that sends all worries out the window. The recording process itself was very liberating. I hope the video leaves a sense of tranquility in the heart of the person watching and maybe inspires them to pack their bags and run off to their happy place.”

There is nothing more evocative than the open road. Those convergent lines stretching out before you towards the horizon signifying adventure, opportunity, or a means of escape. It’s an infectious meditation on “days like these” where you want to just getaway, whether that’s simply shutting your eyes and imagining yourself somewhere else or driving down an open road.

Like only truly great songwriters can, Prangley turns his own experience into art that speaks to and resonates with all of us. A song filled with emotion in every line allows the lyrical genius to take the spotlight.

Vaughn Prangley has been on an absolute roll this year having already released his debut EP, ‘Where it Begins’ and previously shared single, ‘Passing Seconds’ – all picking up press, radio, and fan support both locally and internationally. In recent times, Vaughn won ‘Honorable Mention’ with his song ‘Breathing’ in the prestigious Unsigned Only Music Competition in the US.

Vaughn Prangley has such a unique sound established within his music that separates him from other musicians. The lyrics are honest, open, and accepting; providing a sense of hope and making it relatable to all audiences even despite a global pandemic.

Vaughn comments on the production process of his album

“The pandemic slowed down the production of the whole album which was, in many ways, a blessing in disguise. During the pandemic and lockdown, I wrote so many new songs that I felt were better than the ones I had originally planned to release. It gave me time to think and reflect on myself and life. This album has been an awesome project and is something I am proud of. I am so excited to share it with the world.”

Vaughn Prangley is such a natural storyteller, both in life and in his music. His way with words is something that is both admirable and inspiring. Marking his line in the sand as only the beginning, ‘Call our Own’ is just a taste of the phenomenal work we are yet to see of this young talent.

Stay tuned for more news from Vaughn Prangley as he continues to build towards his upcoming debut album, Destination Unknown.
