Sxeeps has released his much-anticipated solo album “Ghost Writer”. Following the national success of “Why Won’t you Lie to me” with Nathan Ro, “Holy Ghost” with Natasha Meister, and years of being the songwriter behind some of South Africa’s biggest hits. Sxeeps has connected with the artists he has written with over the years to curate an album of his own – “Ghost Writer”.
The “Ghost Writer” tracklisting boasts the features of some of the best artists in the country, including Tamara Dey, Johnny Apple, Tasha Baxter, Yachto Kraft and Cindy Alter (To name a few). Sxeeps means business in stepping out from behind the scenes to uncover the mask of the Ghost Writer for the fans of his music to see who has been the songwriter behind the music they love.
The songs from this album were written to be performed, recorded and released by other artists. Sxeeps was only meant to be a ghost-writer but has decided to take a leap of faith, and release them under his own artist project Sxeeps.
Sxeeps comments on his debut album
“There is something magical in rediscovering things you already have. Like that R50 in your pocket that you forgot about or that slab of chocolate that you couldn’t find weeks ago under a book on your table. I worked laboriously at putting these songs together It’s taken years to compile, each Song is different, each one has a story to tell. Every single one of these songs to me contains a captured moment in time. A Delivery and performance that is rare and difficult to capture. These were the song I could not let go…”
What turns you on about music? Is it the melody, a thumping bass line or a beat that just compels you to move? For Sxeeps, it is the thrill of collaboration. So when it comes to the album “Ghostwriter”, it is a complete musical compilation with all his favourite artists.
Each artist has such a different flavour and style, be it the sultry tones of a ballad with Tasha Baxter, the sheer confidence and vocal prowess of Yahto Kraft or the sexual innuendo Tamara Dey brings to a song or the interesting and perfect harmonies that Mariechen is able to lay down at the drop of a hat.
All of these factors and talents come together to make this album a delicious audio dish, leaving you hankering for more. Sxeeps more than enjoys making music with people, it is a compulsion. He expresses that he can’t help working with artists. It is not always sunshine and peaches though. Sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn’t, but he will never stop making music with new voices.
Sxeeps comments on making music
“I hope that when I am on my death bed, I will be found with a soundcard, a set of headphones and a computer composing my final tune. All in all, I am m always on the lookout for new talent, And who knows one day I might be collaborating with you.”
