Johannesburg-born rapper, singer, songwriter, and composer Smiddy has officially released his latest single, “Mabili”, now available on all major streaming platforms.
A Message to the Doubters
“Mabili” is more than just a track—it’s a bold declaration in the face of doubt, hate, and silent hustle.
Smiddy explains the inspiration behind the song: “With the hardships of navigating through the industry, people felt like I was not going anywhere—despite everything I’ve been doing behind closed doors. This song is me speaking directly to that. That’s why the hook starts with, ‘Bathi Uboyze Akanmunyakazo.’ I’m asking people to look closer: everything I do is out in the open. I don’t hide my progress.”
A Fusion of Modern Hip Hop and Trap
The single blends modern hip hop with trap elements, riding over a hard-hitting beat while seamlessly switching between English and vernac. It’s a dynamic showcase of Smiddy’s lyrical prowess and versatility.
Musical Roots and Rising Momentum
Smiddy’s musical journey is rooted in heritage—he is the son of Maskandi and Umbaqhanga legend Ikhansela. Early influences from icons like Mandoza and Brenda Fassie helped shape his distinct style. His breakout single “East PM” marked his entry into the spotlight, gaining traction across TV and radio platforms.
In 2021, music executive Ralph discovered Smiddy’s work and was drawn to his sound and work ethic. What began as a management deal evolved into a full-fledged label partnership.
After taking time to study the business side of music, Smiddy made a strong return in 2023, collaborating with artists like Flash Ikumkani and teasing more features on his upcoming EP.
Smiddy Makes A Statement of Resilience and Growth
With “Mabili”, Smiddy is not just dropping another track—he’s making a powerful statement. The song embodies resilience, confidence, and determination to rise above criticism and continue pushing forward.
You can stream “Mabili” on Spotify and all other major streaming platforms.
