On Ending is an album spanning many years of material in the oven and Raptors & Remnants, Nicolas Gonzalez’ solo musical outlet has finally let the material see the the light of day. It’s a personal album of catharsis and closure in some ways, and one of reflection and nostalgia in others.
Songs like “For Nala” serve as a tribute to a beloved pet; “We Were New” revisits the ecstasy and agony of first love; “New Territory” digs into the unknown path lying ahead, both in terms of this new musical avenue and life itself.
Nicholas Gonzalez (Raptors & Remnants) comments on the new album
“Some of these songs go as far back as 2007 among the first ones I wrote, and it’s been both surprising and encouraging to open up these songbooks and find that I’m still as passionate and proud of them now as when I first wrote them.”
“They’ve had some tweaks and additions to them over time, but I feel like this album encompasses my writing style and the emotions I want to bring out with music ever since first picking up a guitar until now,”
In stark contrast to his music with Climate Control, Raptors & Remnants revolves around stripped-back instrumentals, ambient soundscapes and restrained emotion laid bare.
On Ending is a collection of sonic scars and memories laid out as a tribute to the past, an acknowledgement of growth, and a reminder that new perspectives granted by time can offer some hope for the future.
