State Society, the Johannesburg based quintet released their much anticipated second album ‘Tall Tales & Fiction’ on the 29th of May 2016. The release coincided with their official album launch event which took place at The Good Luck Bar in Johannesburg. They performed alongside Converse ‘Get Out Of The Garage’ 2015 winners IV4, Dirty Moonshine and September Reign.
The band spent just under a year at Anti-Motion Studios, in between performing at many a festival and venue, with David Grevler (Wrestlerish, Lunatic Wolf) at the production helm. ‘The experience with Dave was out of this world. His experience and great musical ear ensured that our finished product came out sounding so damn great. We are very proud of ‘Tall Tales & Fiction’. Says Marchant Pretorius (guitarist and backing vocalist for the band).
‘Tall Tales & Fiction’ is a more mature and progressive step away from their debut album ‘This Life’. ‘Tall Tales & Fiction’ depicts a new era in State Society’s writing; reinventing themselves without losing their positivity. The album tells a story of finding oneself in the midst of human chaos. Tales of youth, reflection, self- awareness and a journey into the human condition is what the listener can expect. The title is influenced from the social norm of the 21st century, depicts the consciousness of the human condition like never before.’ says frontman Clifford Barnard.
‘Tall Tales & Fiction’ can be streamed exclusively on the band’s official website and YouTube channel. The first track that is being showcased is the State Society’s take on The Black Keys tune ‘Lonely Boy’. Have a listen to it below:
Audiences can expect State Society to be gracing many stages throughout the country for the remainder of 2016. ‘Tall Tales & Fiction’ is available at all State Society shows, as a physical copy and can also be purchased digitally at this link.
