Neumatic Parlo, the dynamic five-piece band hailing from Düsseldorf, has just released their debut album Play It as It Lays on Unique Records, marking a significant milestone in their sonic journey.

The band presents an eclectic and emotionally charged album inspired by the themes of urban disillusionment and lost ambition found in Joan Didion’s novel of the same name.

    More info about Neumatic Parlo

Founded in 2017, Neumatic Parlo – consisting of Vincent Göttler (vocals, guitar), Luis Wedekind (keys), Justin Janßen (drums), Jasper van den Hövel (bass), and Simon Hartmann (guitar)—initially built their reputation through small shows and underground festivals, gradually breaking into the local Düsseldorf music scene.

They honed their sound by drawing on influences like Tame Impala, Radiohead, and Neu!, crafting a modern interpretation of krautrock, garage, and psychedelic rock.

Their new album Play It as It Lays represents a culmination of the band’s evolution, incorporating punk and post-punk elements that echo the gritty, industrial roots of Düsseldorf’s musical history.

The album promises a captivating mix of 90s-inspired guitar riffs, reflective lyrics, and atmospheric production, appealing to fans of contemporary UK bands, like Shame, Squid and Dry Cleaning. Yet, Neumatic Parlo‘s sound remains uniquely their own, pushing the boundaries of genre and creating a fresh, urgent style.

Recorded in September 2023 with producer Antony Fitzharris, the album immerses listeners in a world of concrete jungles, urban loneliness, and disillusioned dreams. Songs like “(feed me) shallow kiss” deliver poignant reflections on city life, while the album’s ten tracks create a sonic landscape filled with energetic riffs, feedback loops, and intense emotional swells.

The band has already garnered significant attention through past EPs All Purpose Slicer and Random Toaster, with singles featured on playlists like Spotify’s “Fresh Finds: Rock” and radio shows such as Simon LeBon’s SiriusXM program.

As they prepare for a nationwide promotional tour in late 2024, Neumatic Parlo is also beginning work on their second album, solidifying their place as one of Germany’s most promising emerging bands.
