Renowned vocalist Monique Hellenberg presents her most intimate project yet with the release of her new single, “No Regrets,” a heartfelt tribute to her late twin sister, Lisa Hellenberg.
Originally written by Lisa as a farewell gift to a friend moving to the UK, this poignant track, composed when the sisters were young and about to start high school, has been revived 24 years later with the support of acclaimed producer Ebrahim Mallum.
A Song of Deep Bond
“No Regrets” has been reimagined with an additional verse and bridge dedicated to Lisa. Monique Hellenberg’s soulful voice blends with an updated rhythm, transforming the song into an emotive yet uplifting anthem that celebrates the bond they shared, embodying both love and loss.
“Lisa wrote this song at such a young age, and even then, her songwriting had a depth and beauty that resonated with everyone. Bringing it back after so many years has been one of the most emotional experiences of my life, but it’s also a way to keep Lisa’s spirit alive through music.”
Remembering Lisa Hellenberg’s Musical Legacy
Born in 1983, Lisa Hellenberg displayed exceptional musical talent from an early age. She began playing the recorder and piano at six and, by 1994, was mastering the silver flute.
At just twelve, she was already composing her own songs, and in 1995, she performed “My Guy” as a solo at her primary school talent show, captivating her audience with her technique and introspective style.
Lisa’s talent blossomed in high school, where she won a songwriting competition with her Arbor Day song and became a beloved soloist in Rustenburg Girls’ High School’s cabaret, wowing audiences with her rendition of “How Deep Is Your Love.”
As a pianist at school assemblies and a lead role in SACS High School’s Guys and Dolls musical, her talent shone brightly. Tragically, she passed away on Good Friday, April 21, 2000, just before the musical’s opening, leaving behind a powerful musical legacy.
Monique Hellenberg: A Voice of Talent and Versatility
Monique Hellenberg, Lisa’s twin, has carved out her own successful career as a versatile and award-winning Cape Town vocalist. She gained national acclaim as the featured voice on Goldfish’s hit, “This Is How It Goes,” which became an international success. Her recent R&B single, “Spend A Little Time,” climbed into the Heart 104.9FM Top 40 in early 2024.
Beyond her recording work, Monique Hellenberg frequently performs at live events with jazz and pop ensembles and collaborates with orchestras led by conductor Richard Cock. As a dedicated mentor, she has guided artists like Zoe Modiga, Manana, Langa Mavuso, and The Voice SA 2026 winner Richard Stirton.
With “No Regrets,” Monique delivers a deeply personal tribute to Lisa, intertwining their shared love for music and preserving her sister’s memory in song.
