Today I’m featuring the music video for “Klein Tambotieboom”, a song by Die Heuwels Fantasties. Judging by the amount of posts I’ve done about them, all of you reading this post have probably come to the conclusion that I’m one of their biggest fans. That assumption would be correct. Maybe it’s because they sing my native language Afrikaans.
They are 2010 MK Award Nominees in 3 categories. They are nominated in the Best Campus hit (for Pille for Kersfees), in the Best Colab (for Our Heritage) and in the Best Group category (for Sonrotse). Recently Die Heuwels Fantasties admitted on their Facebook page that they will be releasing a 2nd album in the 2nd half of 2010 (after the 2010 FIFA World Cup). Klein Tambotieboom (meaning “Small Tambotie tree” in English) was released on their self-titled 2009 debut album. It’s the most mellow song on the album.

This song conjures up the love most South Africans have for the nature and bushveld. Hearing this song makes me yearn for an experience consisting of sun, nature and bushveld. Sometimes South African citizens forget that there are still a lot of beatiful wide open spaces in the country. City life will do that to most people.
