Great News! Pretoria based Afrikaans Rap ‘n Roll act Bittereinder released a brand new video today for their song “Die Slagting” (which happens to be one of my favorite songs on the “Dinkdansmasjien” album).
This Bittereinder song features Dutch rapper Tim Beumers (who you may remember for his collaboration on Bittereinder’s their track “Schlechte Mensen”). There’s no doubt in my mind that this video release is one of the most anticipated ones in the SA Music realm in 2013.
The video is described as follows “The multi-layered concept of the video was essentially shaped by the necessity to shoot the footage that makes up the video over a period of more than a year. The video was shot in Pretoria and Mozambique during six different shoots.”
“The first section of footage was shot when Tim Beumers was in South Africa in 2012 (when he performed with Bittereinder at the MK Awards) Louis’ sister, Magdalene Minnaar, plays the part of ‘the voice of the synth’ (an inter-video reference to the first MiNNAAR video, ‘Volcano’).”
“The video also features Peach playing drums with a bag over his head, Louis headbanging in the shower and Jaco rapping loudly on the main street of a Mozambiquan village.”
I vaguely remember Jaco Van Der Merwe telling me something about footage for a video that they were shooting in Mozambique when I attended STRAB festival earlier this year, but I have to admit that this was definitely not what I expected – this is ten times more awesome than the picture I had in my mind.
If there’s one thing that Louis Minnaar knows how to do, it’s making epic music videos. Don’t take my word for it though, check it the video below if you don’t believe me
Having visited Mozambique a few times I have to say that the bar that Jaco is dancing in front of looks kinda familiar. It’s highly possible that I’ve been there. Maybe I should confirm this when I visit Mozambique again in 2014.
What do you think of Bittereinder’s newest music video offering?
