Renowned artist and owner of Inkabi Records, Big Zulu, has unveiled his fourth studio album titled Ngises Congweni, translating to “the peak of a mountain.”
The album’s title symbolizes Big Zulu’s ascent to the pinnacle of the music industry, serving as an inspiration to many. Additionally, it pays homage to his birthplace, Bergville, nestled amidst the mountains of the Drakensberg.
Ngises Congweni is a tribute to those who have supported and guided him throughout his journey. Departing from his previous reputation as a lyrically focused rapper, this album is marked by an Afro-pop influence, showcasing Big Zulu’s versatility and musical evolution across various genres.
Within the album, Zulu demonstrates his growth as an artist, embracing a blend of Afro-pop, maskandi, and hip-hop, a fusion dubbed “ushuni.”
This unique sound acts as a bridge between traditional and urban music, with Big Zulu spearheading its emergence as a new genre.
Ngises Congweni appeals to audiences of all ages, addressing themes of love, community, hope, loss, and poverty. It serves as a testament to Zulu’s ability to transcend musical boundaries while delivering messages that resonate with listeners from diverse backgrounds.

Siyabonga Nene, known professionally as Big Zulu, is a South African rapper and songwriter. He rose to spotlight after releasing the single “Donsa Nkabi” in 2016.
He signed a record deal with Universal Music in 2015 and Zulu released his debut album, Ushun Wenkabi and Ungqongqoshe Wongqongqoshe.
