Pop meets irresistible energy in “Want Me,” the latest single from acclaimed South African pop star Ben Rodrigues and genre-blending production duo We Could Be Related. The track released on Friday, 25 April—just one day before Ben’s highly anticipated first international headline show in London.
Ben Rodrigues and We Could Be Related explore the Magnetic Pull of Forbidden Love
“Want Me” captures the emotional intensity of a love you know is wrong but can’t resist. Built around a stripped-back chorus that draws listeners in before erupting into a powerful drop led by vocal chops, kick, and bass guitar, the track is a potent anthem that hooks you from the first note and refuses to let go.
The Organic Evolution of “Want Me”
The journey of “Want Me” began in September 2024 at Ben’s father’s house in Durban, during his first national tour. A few months later, while staying with We Could Be Related‘s Aidin Nortje in Cape Town, Ben decided to revisit the track. It evolved naturally, with Devon Murray and Aidin Nortje shaping its sound alongside fellow songwriter Ben Reid, who helped craft the lyrical story.
Devon’s signature guitar work and a newly written second verse from Ben completed the song’s transformation into the anthemic release fans hear today.
“I’m so excited for this release. I just know that people are gonna love it and be left only wanting more,” says Ben Rodrigues.
“We’re hoping that people enjoy the energetic nature of the song as much as we do,” adds We Could Be Related, “and that this single may introduce new audiences to a new, different sound that is We Could Be Related, as well as Ben’s ever-evolving and shaping sound.”
A New Era of Collaboration
While We Could Be Related have been behind much of Ben’s previous production work—including the chart-topping, 16-million-stream hit “Was It Real”—”Want Me” marks their first true collaborative release.
The result is a genre-blending pop anthem that straddles the line between heartbreak and dance floor ecstasy, signaling a bold new chapter for both Ben Rodrigues and We Could Be Related.
