Port Elizabeth born and now Cape Town-based singer-songwriter Stuart Reece has released his brand-new EP ‘Temples And Timebombs’. It’s available to download / stream on all digital platforms. To celebrate the release of the EP, he has also announced ‘Weight Of Desire’ as the latest single to be released from the EP. “

Stuart Reece comments on “Weight of Desire”

’Weight Of Desire’ is the feeling that comes over you when you are extremely attracted to someone. In short its ‘lust’ and it’s not necessarily a bad thing. It stems from the anticipation of what’s still to come ‘and can be quite intoxicating in the sense that it consumes you to the point of making irrational decisions.”

Having to film the music video for ‘Weight Of Desire’ while under lockdown, Reece and his fellow musicians (based in different cities across SA), came up with a simple yet very creative solution to film the music video.

Stuart Reece comments on the making of the music video

“The music video for this single was planned via a zoom call and filmed in the middle of lockdown. Each person who appears in the video filmed themselves performing their part on their instrument and it was edited and put together by Ric Martins.”

About 80% of the ‘Temples And Timebombs’ EP was recorded by Reece in his own home studio. He then teamed up with Ric Martins (who edited the ‘Weight Of Desire’ music video as well) to help take it from ‘a glorified demo’ to what it is today. According to Reece “he is an incredibly talented musician and producer so ultimately this was a two-man collaboration between him and myself.” He is incredibly proud of the final EP. ‘Temples And Timebombs” is Stuart Reece’s first EP release in over 4 years.

Stuart explains the title of the EP

“Temples and Timebombs is the last track on the EP and also the title track of the EP. Lyrically it sums up how our different beliefs and religions are at the root of humanities disagreements and ultimately our grievances – (TEMPLES). We will never all agree on one religion or belief, but if we could just ‘live and let live’, we could avoid a whole lot of heartache and in a sense defuse a timebomb that is inevitably going to explode on us – (TIMEBOMBS). I liked the name of the song and felt it was an interesting name for the EP. I spent a lot of time on the lyrics as well as crafting each guitar lick and solo to be as melodic and memorable as it is technical.”

‘Lie Baby Lie’, the first single from the EP, has already yielded a number 1 on the Algoa FM Top 30 and a Top 3 placement on the 5FM Indie Top 10 for Reece. ‘Weight Of Desire’ is without a doubt another powerful single to keep an eye and ear on.

Fans can watch Stuart Reece perform live on the 1st of July 2020. All details are on his website.

What has lockdown been like for Stuart Reece?

“Up and Down – over and over.  In a sense I’ve been extremely frustrated with what feels like a lack of consideration for the entertainment industry as a whole, but I’ve learned that life goes on with or without my frustration it’s easier to let it be and focus on what I can do right now. For a long time I think I was in denial, but I’ve come to accept that things are and will continue to be different. It’s not going back to the way it was and I can’t sit around and ‘wait it out’. On a positive note, I have been able to spend loads of time with my wife and 7-month-old baby and I believe that in a few years from now I will look back on this time and be eternally grateful.”
