Cape Town’s Sakawa Boys are set to break their seven-year silence with the release of their eagerly anticipated second album, Out of the Dark (which was released on 28 June 2024) via the Netherlands-based label The Good Times Co.
The quartet has already garnered praise for their trio of singles released in April and May. Texx and the City hailed the album’s title track as a “triumphant return,” signaling the resurgence of one of South Africa’s beloved indie acts.

Among these singles are “Brain Fog” (which captures the modern experience of constant distraction and overstimulation) and “Out of the Dark” described by co-songwriter John Seth as a reflection on “finding a way out of the dark and over-analysing things.” Both tracks feature on the eight-song album.
Reflecting on their creative process, Sakawa Boys comments
“The journey from initial ideas to finished songs and finally a cohesive record has been extensive. Much transpired in between, and at times, the album’s release seemed uncertain.”
“We often had months-long gaps between working on individual tracks, but each time we revisited the recordings, we felt there was something worth developing and ultimately sharing with our audience.”
The 2024 sound of Sakawa Boys thus represents the reunion of musicians drawn together by their passion for creating music.
Sakawa Boys consist of John Seth (vocals and guitar), Peter Scott (drums), Skye MacInnes (guitar), and Keenan Oakes (bass).
