The Ndlovu Youth Choir, one of South Africa’s most cherished choral groups, has established a tradition of annual performances in Johannesburg and Cape Town. Their sold-out shows in 2021 paved the way for successful tours in 2022 and 2023, demonstrating the immense love, support, and admiration from their local fan base.
Showtime Management, a local promoter, is delighted to announce the return of the Ndlovu Youth Choir, along with the addition of two performances in each city.
The choir’s South African tour will commence at Montecasino’s Teatro on Thursday, September 5th, with an 8pm show, followed by another 8pm performance on Friday. On Saturday, 7 September 2024, there will be two shows at 3 PM and 8 PM, concluding with two more performances on Sunday, 8 September 2024, at 2 PM and 6 PM.
The Cape Town leg of the tour will take place at the Artscape in early 2025, starting with a 7:30 PM show on Thursday, 30 January, followed by another 7:30 PM performance on Friday, 31 January. On Saturday, 1 February, there will be two shows at 3 PM and 7:30 PM, and the tour will wrap up with two performances on Sunday, 2 February, at 2 PM and 6 PM.
Tickets for all shows are available for purchase through www.showtime.co.za or Ticketmaster.co.za.
Ralf Schmitt, the conductor, composer, and producer of the Ndlovu Youth Choir, has revealed that their 2024 repertoire will feature several new arrangements, including a unique interpretation of Queen’s iconic hit, “Bohemian Rhapsody.” The choir aims to bring this globally recognized song to Africa by infusing the original melody with local musical genres.
Additionally, the Ndlovu Youth Choir will pay tribute to South African music legends such as Johnny Clegg, Sipho “Hotstix” Mabuse, Mango Groove, Mandoza, and Kurt Darren through a medley that showcases the choir’s distinctive style.
In a groundbreaking move, the choir will also make history by performing a special rendition of “What a Wonderful World,” famously sung by jazz legend Louis Armstrong, also known as “Satchmo.” This performance will incorporate sign language and low-frequency bass sounds to create an inclusive experience for members of the deaf community.
Tony Feldman of Showtime Management praised the Ndlovu Youth Choir, stating, “The Ndlovu Youth Choir is a beacon of hope to every South African. Not only do they unite people through song, but they are now also performing for people who have a hearing impairment. This is ground-breaking in the most wonderful way.”
