First Light is the second chapter in Lost//Youth’s two-part concept project exploring the themes of light and dark. While their debut EP Chasing Shadows delved into heavier, more introspective themes, First Light offers a brighter, more hopeful perspective, showcasing the band’s growth both musically and lyrically.
Recorded by Ruan Vos and Alanna Joy and mixed by Sloani, the EP is a testament to the band’s ability to balance intimacy with explosive crescendos, creating a soundscape that mirrors the duality of life itself. Alanna Joy’s soulful vocals and introspective lyrics shine through in tracks like “Cold” and “Bittersweet,” resonating with listeners on a deeply personal level.
With First Light, Lost//Youth continue to push boundaries, blending their softer folk influences with the heavier rock sound that dominates their live performances. The result is a body of work that is as emotionally charged as it is musically diverse, solidifying their place as one of South Africa’s most exciting alternative rock acts.
