Afrikaans Rapper Jack Parow has released his first ever music video for his song “Cooler As Ekke”. Jack Parow is from Bellville in the Western Cape. He’s well-known for his contribution in the song “Die Vraagstuk” with Afrikaans Electro Outfit Die Heuwels Fantasties.
I saw a bit of his live show in Hatfield Square in Pretoria earlier this year before watching aKING perform the last show of the night. I also say him perform with Die Heuwels Fantasties at Oppikoppi 2009 Smoorverlief.
To quote Jack Parow on the Oppikoppi Smoorverlief website:
“Hello, my naam is Jack Parow. Ek hou van Afrikaans. Ek hou van rap. Ma’ rap is boring en is oorval met mense wat nie weet wat hulle doen nie. Ek is hier om hulle almal te wys hoe om dit reg te doen. Ek maak musiek saam met my vriende.”
“Ek hou van drink, gevaarlike karre, gevaarlike paarties, gevaarlike cherries, braai en rugby. My musiek lat jou glimlag. My musiek lat jou huil. My musiek lat jou dans en my musiek lat jou dink. Ek het groot geword op die strate van Bellville en Parow en in die Wonderland games arcade in Tygervalley.”
“Ek rook Dunhill sigarette en drink Wellington brandy. Ek hou nie so baie van sokker nie, want ek verstaan nie die reëls nie, ma ek is besig om te leer, so hopelik hou ek gou daarvan. Ek hou nie van mense wat nie hou van Afrikaans nie. My song “Die Vraagstuk” saam met Die Heuwels Fantasties som my goed op, so luister dit. My musiek is eerlik. My naam is Jack Parow, romantiese Afrikaanse superster rapper. Kief Kief.”
I think this sums it up quite uniquely (out of the horses mouth). Cooler as Ekke truly is one of the funniest songs of 2009. I’m looking forward to Jack Parow’s EP release (hopefully not too far away in the future).
He’s definately one of the bright young talents in the ever expanding South African music industry. Cooler as Ekke can be downloaded at Rhythm Music Store for only R7 (On the South African Indie Volume One compilation).
Jack Parow’s self-titled debut album will be released at the end of April 2010 in South Africa.
