Independent grunge-rock collective Free Machine has released their latest single alongside a lyric video, delivering a deeply emotional and sonically immersive experience.
Rooted in a shared love for ‘90s alternative rock, their newest track pays tribute to their influences while offering a poignant reflection on personal loss.
More info about Free Machine
More than just a band, Free Machine is a passion project brought to life by four former musicians who stepped away from the gig and tour scene but never lost their love for making music.
Inspired by legends like Soundgarden, Alice in Chains, and Pearl Jam, the members—Glenn Bradford (vocals, mixing), Clint Jurgens (guitar), Bryan Nicol (drums), and Brendan Haupt (bass)—collaborated remotely to create their debut EP, proving that distance is no barrier when the vision is clear.
Musically, the new single “Black Seasons” is “somewhat of the inspired lovechild of ‘Black Hole Sun’ and Chris Cornell’s solo hit ‘Seasons,’” according to the band.
The lyrics draw influence from a powerful scene in the film Wind River, where a grieving Native American father learns to cope with the devastating loss of his daughter.
“The song is about losing someone close and the pain that comes with it,” says Free Machine. “But the message is about holding onto those memories, and in time, being able to revisit them with a smile.”

For Free Machine, songwriting always starts with the music. “Once I had that intro, it immediately set the tone for the epic and moody feel that followed,” explains guitarist Clint Jurgens. “The chorus practically wrote itself after that. The bridge was a challenge—we wanted it to break from the steady emotional build and reflect the struggle of letting go, leading into the final send-off.”
Unlike most bands launching an album, Free Machine is taking a different approach. “There’s no ‘bigger picture’ here,” they say. “No marketing pushes, no endless promo runs, no events or concerts. This is simply about making good music and sharing it with like-minded rock fans.”
