Alt-pop duo Emerger (Emma de Goede and Gerry Matthee) today releases ‘Round We Go’ – the second single in a series of new offerings from the duo’s upcoming full-length album, set to be released later in 2021.
After the recent success of ‘State of Mind’ and ‘Urban Wilderness (Reimagined)’, which have seen over 100,000 streams across platforms to date, Emerger kicks off the new year with ‘Round We Go’. Strong allusions to 80s synth-pop hint towards their forthcoming album’s sound and the next exciting chapter of their careers.
Gerry Matthee comments on “Round We Go”
“We wrote this song for all the creators out there. ‘Round We Go’ revolves around the artist’s raison d’être, which is to create. The lyrics play with the idea that an artist’s relationship with his/her art can be similar to the ebb and flow of a romantic relationship. The song chronicles the creative process and all of its intricacies. Everything involved with the creation of a work of art has so many layers of complexities, which we feel a lot of people have taken for granted.”
Matthee produced the track from the duo’s home studio in Cape Town.
The video for ‘Round We Go’ is directed by Emma De Goede, who had a clear vision for the video
“Being immersed within a tank of thousands of lights, the video portrays how the creative process can be all-encompassing. We knew from the start we wanted to establish a cinematic experience. Our friend, Goddy Roodt, owner of Polycat animation and visual effects studio, exhibited his Light Tank art installation at the 99 Loop Gallery, which was the perfect setting to shoot the music video for ‘Round We Go’.”
De Goede recruited the cinematic touches of cinematographer, Hugo Brand, who had previously worked on music videos for South African stalwarts, including Francois van Coke and Die Heuwels Fantasties.
