CrashCarBurn Release New Album: “Back From The Dead”

South Africa’s favourite punk rock band CrashCarBurn are back with a brand new album – Back From The Dead. The album comes after the release of two previous singles in September, namely ‘Stay’ and ‘Hold On’.

The album features 11 brand new tracks by the band notorious for taking their time between album releases; throw in a global pandemic and fans had to wait 4 years since their last offering. The album was produced by Chris Snyman. 80% of the album was recorded with Chris at Tigerfight Studios, with the remainder with Jacques Du Plessis at High Seas Studio, who also mixed the album.

When drummer Bugsy moved overseas in 2020, the band lost a huge driving force for the band ‘we simply ran out of gas’ confesses frontman Garth Barnes, ‘I think most people, including ourselves thought the band was done.’

But soon the ‘music itch’ started and by 2021, he couldn’t ignore it anymore. The bulk of the album was written in the first few months of 2021 – when the writing started, it was as easy a process as he has ever experienced, says Garth. Within 6 months, it was ready to go.

CrashCarBurn‘s Garth Barnes comments on making the album

“I think there’s a lot of loss and fear of loss that comes through in the songs. It wasn’t intentional, but during Covid, almost everyone lost someone or something they loved. I consider myself extremely lucky… I never had anyone very close to me die.”

“But I feel like the cloud was always there; like we were all waiting for our turn. A LOT of my friends, including my brother, moved overseas and I think it really made me appreciate the ones I love. I also had two kids during this period and feel like the older you get, the higher the stakes get. It’s all so fragile and I don’t want to take any of it for granted.”

Comparing their albums to novels, their music always draws inspiration from real life experiences – their own or those of others, with some of it being complete fiction. Being away from the music scene for 4 years definitely comes with its own challenges, but CrashCarBurn also describes the new music landscape as exciting – there has never been an easier time to reach a global market.

Back From The Dead as an album title, represents resurrection to the band; when something appears done, there is always room for a comeback. And a comeback is sure what fans can look forward to with CrashCarBurn returning to their roots with this brand new offering.

They describe the album as the heaviest thing they have ever done, with the slickest production they have ever had, whilst still being unmistakably CrashCarBurn.

CrashCarBurn comment on Back From The Dead

“We’re all extremely proud of the album, I don’t think any of us have ever been this excited to release material in a very long time. I think it says plenty about the band; that we’re far from done and quite possibly stronger than we’ve ever felt!”

What do you get when a brand throws caution to the wind with regards to limitations, add a new drummer to the fire combined with a brilliant producer and world class mixing engineer? An album that is fireworks from start to finish – big drums, big guitars, big vocals!

Here and there they let you catch your breath, before you are encapsulated by the energy again! Fans can look forward to having an absolute blast at live shows. CrashCarBurn can’t wait to share it with everyone.
