After a nearly two-year long break, Johannesburg-based alternative rock outfit Climate Control are back. They have taken the reigns with their second full-length album, Equals Not.
The band have kicked things off with the first single, “Brand New”. They continue to show their sonic progression. Climate Control are also maintaining their energetic song writing and penchant for melody.
This time, Climate Control made the decision to take all aspects of their new release into their own hands. Equals Not was recorded and produced by frontman Nic Gonzalez, while all other facets, such as album artwork and videos, were also handled by bassist Wesley Smuts & guitarist Luca Zeeman respectively.
This independent and self-sustaining approach has been a chaotic and trying time for the band. It has proven to be a period of growth and strengthening for them.
With new drummer Ricky Dunningham in the fold, after the departure of founding drummer Jacques du Toit last year, Climate Control are gearing up to bring a new energy to their live shows, and hope that Equals Not resonates with & impacts listeners as much as it has for themselves. I have to admit that this song is one of the most upbeat tunes that I’ve heard in 2018. It’s fast paced and a pleasure to listen to. I’m hoping that the rest of their upcoming album is as good as this single is.
Equals Not will be available for purchase & streaming on all digital platforms in November. The official album release date will be announced soon.
