2022 saw a new chapter in Carla Franco’s music identity. With the release of her debut album, ‘Chapter I’ in April 2022, she introduced the world to the first chapter of her greater story with a timeless, immortal and personal offering from the 27 year old singer/songwriter hailing from Bloemfontein.
“Virtue” is the 4th single released from Carla Franco’s debut album, following on ‘When You’re Ready’, ‘Scared To Love’ and ‘Need To Get Better’. Both her first two singles reached the #1 spot on the Jacaranda SA Top 20.
‘When You’re Ready’ also reached the SA Top 20 Chart on OFM. 2022 also saw Carla appearing on TV shows and national and regional radio for interviews and performances across the nation.
Together with her band, she shared stages with the likes of Francois Van Coke, Droomsindroom, Prime Circle, Jethro Tait, Bouwer Bosch, Straatligkinders, Neon Dreams, Rubber Duc and many more.

“Virtue”, the single, was written when Carla Franco returned from living in China for a year, around the end of 2019.
The inspiration and songwriting of the track was fuelled by the fact that she just found out that her partner at the time was seeing someone else throughout their relationship.
“Virtue” also features Tam Carson – a collaborative track to start the new year on a refreshing and fun note in terms of style, and which also hints at the direction of her next album.
Carla Franco explains “Virtue”
“Virtue by definition means to show high moral standards. The break-up was a really bitter fallout and virtue speaks to how something that was once a unified path has become something separated entirely. Virtue is a song that represents my frustration with always trying to do right but being cheated on several times – this time it was something I hadn’t anticipated at all.”
Featuring slow hip hop elements with a slight indie tone to it, combined with Carla Franco’s signature raw and blunt lyrics, the single leans furthest from what she has ever done as an artist.
Being a huge rap and hip hop music fan, Carla Franco wanted to explore whether she could write within those genres and sees “Virtue” as an experimentation of her desire to do more with her style and as an artist.
Carla Franco comments on her new single
“Anyone who’s been deceived or had their trust betrayed will definitely relate to this track. All of us just want to be chosen and loved – “Virtue” is one emotional experience of what not having that could feel like, but also taking ownership of your worth.”
