South African artists Leo Burg and Carla Franco have collaborated on a new indie pop track called “Bygones”, produced by Pala Chrome. Both artists bring their unique perspectives to the song, which explores the complexities of a relationship.
Leo Burg, initially only a major fan of Carla Franco’s album Chapter I, reached out to her for a collaboration. The result is a song featuring guitar, marimba, drums, and synths, creating a catchy and uplifting melody that perfectly complements the introspective lyrics.
Leo Burg comments on working with Carla Franco
“Working with Carla on ‘Bygones’ was like finding a perfect match on a dating app. We come from different worlds, but our love for music brought us together. As soon as I heard the melody and lyrics, I knew I had to be a part of it. Collaborating with Carla was a blast – it was like discovering a new favourite ice cream flavour.”
“The result is a sweet, refreshing indie pop song that captures the ups and downs of a relationship. Working on ‘Bygones’ was the perfect therapy session for me after a breakup, and I hope it brings the same healing energy to our fans.”
In ‘Bygones’, Leo and Carla sing about the difficulties of letting go of a relationship that has run its course. The lyrics, “I’ve been moving on, you’ve been moving slow, and it’s really got me wondering if you’re ever gonna let me go”, capture the feeling of being stuck in a situation that you know is not healthy, but still finding it hard to move on.
The song’s chorus is an ode to the power of self-love and the importance of letting go. “So I’ll be on my way, on my way home”, sings Leo and Carla, highlighting the importance of prioritising one’s own well-being and finding the strength to walk away from toxic situations.
Carla Franco comments on working with Leo Burg
“I first heard of Leo through a mutual friend but it wouldn’t be until years later that he and I would officially meet. When I first met Leo, it may sound strange, but it is as though I sintantly knew his soul was pure; light. He is really one of the sweetest humans I know and when he asked me if I’d not only write a song for his upcoming project but also feature – it was a no brainer for me.”
“I had just stepped into the new journey of wanting to work with as many artists as possible – learn, teach and be taught. As a result, I pitched a few songs to Leo and ‘Bygones’ is what we landed on – through the mutual bond of understanding what it takes to heal from heartbreak and failed relationships.”
‘Bygones’ is a unique and refreshing addition to the indie pop genre, blending African rhythms with contemporary electronic beats. The song is a testament to Carla’s songwriting abilities and is brought to life by the production of Pala Chrome and the performance of Leo and Carla. The three artists’ synchronicity in their collaboration is evident, resulting in a compelling and memorable musical experience.
Fans of indie pop and queer music are sure to love ‘Bygones’, which is a powerful and introspective exploration of the complexities of relationships.
