Family duo Cantrel, hailing from South Africa, has unveiled their latest single “Walls” from their new EP Jump. The father-son partnership of Neil and Jesse Breytenbach brings a powerful message of mental health awareness and self-compassion to their latest release.
“Walls” emerged from an intimate moment between the duo when Jesse returned home after a challenging day. Neil, composing at his grand piano, transformed this personal experience into a song that addresses the internal struggles many face.
“Sometimes you just have to stop being so hard on yourself,” Neil explains. “We often become our own worst critics, and learning to reach out for help is crucial.”
The band’s musical journey reflects their creative evolution. Initially rooted in rap-rock, Cantrel has expanded their sonic palette to embrace acoustic elements and adult contemporary influences, crafting a unique position within South Africa’s musical landscape.
Their collaborative process benefits from their close family bond, resulting in authentic and emotionally resonant music.

Their itinerary includes performances across Germany and Switzerland in February, followed by a series of shows throughout South Africa. Audiences can expect a dynamic range of performances, from high-energy rock concerts to intimate acoustic sessions.
