Life can often seem insincere. Babette knows this all too well. Friends can be disingenuous, and the music industry can be full of pretenses. We’ve all encountered someone we would label as “Fake.”
Following the release of Babette’s new Afrikaans album, Tweede Kans, she presents her new English single – “Fake.”
Imagine the iconic Mean Girls-like movies we’ve all watched for years: a soon-to-be-discovered geeky girl contending with the A-listers at her school.
Picture a young, rising artist at an event, surrounded by established artists who act like they own the place.
Now, envision a relationship where everything you believed to be genuine is not. “Fake” is an anthem for anyone who has ever felt the need to fight for their rightful place.
Babette has been a courageous voice in South African music, standing up against bullying, gender-based violence, and the negative judgments of others.
As with all her music, it’s cheeky and pays homage to the pop sounds of the 80s and 90s. This is the empowering anthem every downtrodden girl wants to hear and blast loudly.
This song will speak to every young rocker’s heart. It’s an anthem to live by.Just be yourself – everything else is “Fake”.
