Cape Town-born alt-R&B and indie alternative artist Yoshe has released his latest single, “Oceans”—a deeply personal and emotionally resonant track that signals a bold evolution in his sonic journey.
Known for his previous electronic collaborations with artists like Thor Rixon, Kekura, and Virela, Yoshe takes a more intimate approach on this release, weaving together alt-pop, indie, and R&B influences with raw, heartfelt lyricism.
A Song About Growth, Grounding, and Emotional Maturity
“‘Oceans’ isn’t about romantic infatuation,” says Yoshe. “It’s about that shift from man-boy to man—taking responsibility, carrying each other’s weight, and recognising the partner who walks beside you through it all. Where he’s caught in the noise of his own mind, she’s the calm that quiets it—like the ocean.”
This theme of emotional growth and introspection is reflected not only in the lyrics but also in the track’s layered, soulful production. It’s an anthem for those navigating adulthood, vulnerability, and the quiet power of emotional partnership.
Crafted with Care: The Creative Team Behind “Oceans”
“Oceans” was shaped by a close circle of trusted collaborators, including Yanick Bathfield and Simon Ackermann (of Grassy Spark), producer Vincente Espi, and Greg Abrahams (Sound Foundry). Each contributor added a unique texture and emotional depth to the song, helping bring Yoshe’s vision to life.
Sonically, the track mirrors Yoshe’s genre-fluid approach to songwriting. “I never write with a genre in mind,” he explains. “I care about sincerity. Something with edge.
Something you can dance to or sit still with.” His diverse musical influences span from Frank Ocean and The Police to Slipknot and Hans Zimmer, and that wide range shines through in the song’s emotional dynamism.
A Turning Point in Yoshe’s Artistic Journey
Following five collaborative singles that have amassed over half a million streams, “Oceans” represents a turning point in Yoshe’s career. It marks the beginning of a more introspective, fully realized chapter—one in which he’s not just experimenting with sound but also carving out his own emotional narrative.
“This new chapter is more personal,” he says. “It’s Yoshe, fully formed.”
With another single dropping in July and a full EP release planned for August, Yoshe is poised for a breakout moment. And when it comes to live performance, he’s eager to bring the emotion of the studio to the stage. “That’s where this project really shines. I can’t wait to bring it to life.”
