Savage Lucy unveil the video for new single: “Vagabond”

South African progressive instrumentalists Savage Lucy have released their long-awaited new single, “Vagabond”. Arranging dynamic movements of melodic phrasing over eccentric rhythms, shadowed by darkly textured breakdowns, the trio intends to create emotional and erotic soundscapes, captured perfectly on the expansive track.

Guitarist Austen Ramsay Lewis comments on “Vagabond”

“Savage Lucy hasn’t released new material in a long time. Vagabond is the first new addition since 2015. Vagabond was named almost as a link to feeling lost. I think many of us often feel as we are meaninglessly just moving from place to place. The music video is our way of expressing that.”

    More info about Savage Lucy

Savage Lucy is a Johannesburg based instrumental trio, formed in April 2011, including Austen Ramsay Lewis on guitars, Steven Bosman on drums and Clint Falconer on bass.

The band first proved their ability to entertain a crowd by winning Emerging Sounds Battle of the Bands 2011 just six months after formation. Since then they have been playing live in and around Johannesburg and Pretoria, including Kitchener’s, The Bohemian, Tanz, Shikisha’s, Rumours Lounge, Amuse Cafe, and Shivas Rock. Festival shows include Smoking Dragon (2012 & 2014), Oppikoppi (2013) and 4/20 D-DAY (2013 & 2014), 4/20 D-DAY (2019) and Smoking Dragon (2019).

Savage Lucy has shared the stage with the likes of Tidal Waves, The Brother Moves On, BEAST, Birth of Joy (Norway), Last Supper (Canada), The Slashdogs, Cortina Whiplash, New Academics, Taxi Violence, Albino Beach, Poverty Of Ideals, ISO and Shadowclub.

With roots in post/progressive metal, post and psychedelic rock, blues and jazz, Savage Lucy aim to build upon their influences, orchestrating sonic voyages that seize and provoke discerning ears.

“Vagabond” is definitely one of the most melodic and rocking tracks that I’ve heard in recent times. I’m curious to see and hear what Savage Lucy gets up to next. I would also love to check them out live again. I think the last time I watched them was in 2017 or 2018 at The Good Luck Bar in Johannesburg.
