South African singer-songwriter Phil Higgins released her brand-new single, “Yours Truly, Julie,” on the 14th of February 2025. The track is taken from her highly anticipated upcoming EP, Blue + Green, set for release later this year.
“Yours Truly, Julie” is a deeply personal and reflective song, serving as a love letter to those still finding their path in life.
Phil Higgins comments on the track
“It felt fitting to release this song as a Valentine’s gift. It’s for the dreamers who refuse to settle, who chase what calls to them. I wrote this song for Julie after discovering her letter saying she was moving away to follow her dream. Sometimes, you have to let people go so they can become who they’re meant to be.”
Higgins penned the song during a transformative time in her life after moving to Rotterdam to pursue a Bachelor of Music degree. In many ways, she sees her own journey reflected in Julie’s story.
“I end the song with the lyrics, ‘Can’t stop running, I won’t stop now with my head in the clouds and my feet on the ground. Oh truly, signed it yours truly, Julie.’ That line captures the heart of the song for me.”
Blending indie-pop with a rich, nostalgic depth, Phil Higgins creates music that is adventurous, honest, and genre-defying. With soulful vocals, lyrical mantras, and anthemic messages of self-worth, her artistry embodies both sunshine and storms.
Driven by a hopeful spirit and a deep passion for connection, her music invites listeners to embrace their journey with open hearts.
“Yours Truly, Julie” is available on all major streaming platforms.
The music video for the track is a heartfelt and nostalgic visual companion to the song. Filmed in Vroesenpark, Rotterdam, the video was conceptualized by Higgins herself and shot in an intimate, DIY style with the help of her friends, embracing the raw authenticity that defines both the track and her artistry.
“I wanted the video to feel like a glimpse into someone’s life—like a personal diary entry capturing a single moment in time,” Higgins shares. “Some parts reflect being present and connected, while others capture the feeling of figuring things out alone. It has the same wholesome energy as a carefree day in the park with friends, which is why I asked them to help me film it and be part of it.”
Adding to its charm, the video was shot using a tiny, toy-like camera belonging to a friend. “We didn’t adjust any settings before filming, so the timestamp hilariously says 2019, even though we shot it at the end of 2024. That little accident just made it feel even more like a found memory.”
