“This single is about being more of your raw and authentic self,” Matthew explains. “It’s about leaving all the bad things behind in the past and embracing who you really are, especially when it comes to your special person.”

Co-written with long-time collaborator Helena Bowie, “Dirty Boots” began as a simple guitar melody in Matthew’s bedroom before evolving into a vibrant, full-bodied anthem.

Produced by Matthew May and Bowie, the track blends heartfelt intimacy with an uplifting energy that captures the joy of rediscovery and personal growth. Its catchy rhythm and hopeful tone make it a perfect closing track for What’s On Your Mind.

2025 was a Year of Growth For Matthew Charles

Throughout 2025, Matthew has consistently released singles leading up to his debut EP, each showcasing a new side of his artistry. “This whole EP has been such a fun journey,” he says. “Everything’s been doing so well, and I’m super proud of the music I’ve put out this year.”

The journey doesn’t stop here though. Matthew Charles is already preparing two more EPs for release next year and is eager to take his music to the stage. “I can’t wait to play some shows and share what’s next,” he adds, marking “Dirty Boots” as both an ending and an exciting new beginning.
