“Evening Train” is the first release from Lucy Kruger & The Lost Boys’ upcoming LP Transit Tapes (for women who move furniture around).
It’s one of the first songs Lucy wrote after moving to Berlin from South Africa in 2018. It speaks to the alienation and intimacy of a train ride in a city that you suddenly call home. The train offers a small moment of shared space with strangers and a physical proximity that can feel both comforting and painful when you are missing touch and closeness.
A sharp nostalgia for a feeling of safety like the one where your father held all your weight in his strong arms. A reckoning with aloneness. The full album, Transit Tapes (for women who move furniture around) will be released on 14 May 2021.
As a follow up to 2019’s “Sleeping Tapes (for some girls)”, Transit Tapes similarly mines and documents deeply personal themes – this time Kruger’s desire to no longer have to keep things neat and contained, and a seeking of space and outward movement. It features the new Lost Boys – Martin Perret, Andreas Miranda and Liú Mottes.
Lucy Kruger explains how the new album came about
“The songs begin in the bedroom, as with Sleeping Tapes, but with an eye on the window and a hand on the door. There is a restlessness. A kind of building up of courage and the acknowledgement of a fear I had developed around making too much noise or causing too much of a scene.”
