The track’s music video is a Visual Love Letter to Johannesburg
Shot in 2024, the music video for “In The Morning” features actress Didintle Khunou and was conceptualized by Leon John himself. Capturing the Johannesburg skyline at dawn, the video intertwines breathtaking cityscapes with intimate performance vignettes, reflecting the emotion and intent of the single. Directed by Mpho Moahle Kobe, with creative input from Leon and Didintle, the video is both visually striking and deeply evocative.
“I’ve always wanted my music videos to exist as narratives of their own, where I serve as a storyteller rather than the central figure. It adds another dimension to the music, allowing a talented actor’s performance or a filmmaker’s vision to breathe new life into the song.”
Described as a love letter to a Johannesburg morning, the video brings the song’s poetic lyrics to life through its vivid cinematography and Didintle Khunou’s powerful performance.
Leon John’s striking look in the video features pieces from UNI FORM by Luke Radloff, including a special collection in collaboration with the Azzedine Alaïa Foundation. His elegant ostrich feather ensemble was created by creative director BeeDiamondHead.
