Rising South African singer-songwriter Joneaux is back with his new single “When You Know You Know”, a bright, groove-filled funk pop anthem about knowing you are in love yet having absolutely no idea how to express it.
Since making his debut earlier this year, he has built a fast-growing social media community and pulled in millions of views through his viral series “Songs South Africans Forgot About”.

“When You Know You Know” bottles the chaotic sweetness of falling for someone whose presence turns your brain into scrambled eggs. “It’s that feeling when you know exactly what you want, but your brain or body completely fails you,”
Joneaux explains with a laugh. “I wanted it to sound like tripping over your own feet in love, but still make you want to dance.” The lyrics lean into self-awareness, shaping a love song that is clumsy, imperfect, and wonderfully human.
Produced, mixed, and mastered by Timothy Drew, the single sees Joneaux stepping into a playful new sonic direction infused with South African pop charm. It marks an evolution from the indie pop energy of earlier releases such as “18 Baby”.
Joneaux is a growing talent with a passion for local music
Born Jonathan Nunes, Joneaux continues to grow with a DIY mindset, a sharp sense of humour, and a deep appreciation for homegrown music.
His online community expands with every post and his recent Quickfire Questions series with top South African artists has cemented him as a recognisable presence in the local landscape, blending nostalgia, storytelling, and new generation creativity.
Beyond the digital world, Joneaux is deeply immersed in the live music circuit. He attends shows weekly, engages with artists across the country, and continues to shape the sound of his own future performances.
“I think being surrounded by the South African scene has changed how I write, and I am learning so much from everyone I’ve met so far,” he says. “There is such an honesty and warmth in our music, and I wanted this song to feel like that.”
