Internationally acclaimed South African DJ and producer, DJ Lag has released his sophomore album The Rebellion on the 26th of June 2024. He is set to perform at the Glastonbury Festival in the UK this weekend.
Following the success of his singles ‘Hade Boss’, ‘Hade Boss Re-Up’, ‘Oke Oke’, and ‘Iza Ngamandla’— garnering praise from music critics globally, DJ Lag, the undisputed King of Gqom, is back with his highly anticipated sophomore album.
DJ Lag comments
“Making this album has been a real journey and I had a lot of fun making it. I wanted to experiment musically but also take the experience from dance floors I play for around the world into the project. I just hope everybody enjoys it as much as I did making it”
Following the success of ‘Meeting With The King‘, this album marks a bold step forward, featuring notable guest artists and hit singles like ‘Hade Boss’ and ‘The Re-Up’, which have achieved viral success and multi-platinum status in South Africa.
His journey from creating tracks on FruityLoops in Durban to becoming a globally recognized electronic music creator is remarkable. His recent Best Gqom Album win at the South African Music Awards underscores his impact.
From early popularity among Durban taxi drivers to captivating audiences at major international festivals, DJ Lag’s rise has been meteoric.
Currently on a world tour, he’s completed shows in the USA and is set to perform at Glastonbury Festival before heading to Asia in August. Despite his global success, DJ Lag remains connected to his hometown of Clermont, organizing local events like Something for Clermont.
With ‘The Rebellion‘, his ongoing tours, and festival appearances, DJ Lag continues to shape the global electronic music landscape while staying true to his roots.
